Dear Fellow Human,
You’ve landed in a compassionate space.
If you’d like, take a moment and let those words sink in
It seems only fair that if you were going to open up about your health journey to me, you might want to know something about mine in return. I’d sure want to know if my health coach “got it” and was thoroughly familiar with the challenges health can bring. Health can be deeply personal and deserves more genuineness than the platitudes and cliches that it’s so often given.
You can trust that my compassion for
Health is more than just words…
Because I’ve lived it.
I know from personal experience that change is not always easy, much less not often a straight line. I also know how complicated it can be when your body changes in ways you weren’t expecting, and your life requires rearranging because of it, whether you were ready for change or not.
I know the tears,
the frustration,
the pain: physical and emotional,
the overcoming,
the stepping backwards,
the growing,
and the joy in a new life.
Humanness Coaching LLC was birthed out of my personal journey through Celiac disease
Navigating the territory of an autoimmune condition was a winding road. It took years for me to get a diagnosis, years to recover, years to rearrange and recreate my life to be what it is today.
I wanted to reveal my humanness to you to reassure you that I’ve been there, and also to convey hope for life after change.
During my journey I experienced the complexity of managing an ailing body. I went through the frustration of food cravings so intense they made me want to rip my hair out. I felt the stress of wondering what “new normal” would be, things like would I EVER be able to eat at a restaurant again? I also worried about how the people in my life would react to all my changes.
Rest assured that my experiences like this with Celiac disease aren’t exclusively tied to autoimmunity
They cross apply to so many different areas of health, and created a mindset of compassion I uphold for all health conditions. Food cravings can be present in weight loss, food allergies, gut issues, and pregnancy. Adjusting to life changes that create a “new normal” can happen after a diabetes diagnosis, sports injuries, chronic illnesses, or even simply getting older. And wondering how people will react… well that can happen with just about every health experience.
Eventually after going though the roller coaster of emotions that came from trying to figure out what a life I’d never imagined for myself would turn out to be, I came out on the other side. It’s through years of deep researching hidden ingredients in foods, learning to cook more and more from scratch, birthing a personal garden that I eat from daily, starting a meditation practice, and learning to manage stress differently… among many many other learning processes, that my new life was born.
There is beauty in this new life I didn’t expect
I didn’t expect to get the amount of appreciation I get from being connected to the seasons through my garden. I enjoy the slower pace that my body ushered me into more than I thought I would. I am thankful for feeling deeply present in my life whether I’m with people or plants. Most of all, I’m grateful to have paused and genuinely asked myself what I wanted most deeply from
my one wild &
precious life
– Mary Oliver
No matter what health journey you’re on, (Celiac disease is not a requirement for admission here) your story and the variables you’re facing are unique to you. After going through my own health challenges, I deeply believe there is no one size fits all formula. Health is varied. The lives we live as humans are varied. The journey and the person on it deserve being treated with respect to that uniqueness. These are values I hold dearly and a lived compassion I’m determined to bring to health coaching.
So fellow human, the choice is up to you now
It’s up to you to determine if you’d like me along for on your health journey. What will you create out of your one wild and precious life? The decision is truly yours, and I respect wherever your heart leads you. If you’re a person who likes details and credentials, and needs them to make decisions they are here too. Look around, explore, discover whatever you need to help you decide the path that’s best for you. Or use my contact info to reach out for a phone call, if you need more personal contact to make a decision.
Until we may connect sometime, or even if we don’t…
In the spirit of quality of life,
Kristen
